Joshua Jensen-Nagle was born and raised in New Jersey. In 1999 he came to Canada to attend Ryerson University and began to develop his distinct photographic style. Since then he has become an established artist who has been exhibited in international museums and galleries.

His works are photographs but not in the typical documentary style. Jensen-Nagle’s work is more reminiscent of painting than photography, he explains: “One thing I try to achieve is a painterly aspect in my work, it’s how I understand photography. Jensen-Nagle achieves his unique style, including the use of expired Polaroid film, to obtain an extraordinary colour palette. He also paints directly on his photographs and then re-shoots them to create an image that pushes the boundaries between the mediums.

Né aux États Unis, il arrive au Canada en 1999, où il étudie à l’université Ryerson et commence à développer son style photographique très personnel. C’est ainsi qu’il devient un artiste reconnu, après avoir exposé dans plusieurs galeries et musées à niveau international.

Ses œuvres sont des photographies qui parfois se brouillent avec la peinture en devenant des hybrides. «Je cherche toujours à obtenir la picturalité dans la photo» explique Joshua Jensen-Nagle à propos de son approche de la photographie.

La technique de Jensen-Nagle inclut l’utilisation de Polaroids périmés, qui permettent d’adoucir l’image et d’obtenir une palette de couleurs exceptionnelle. En outre, il peint directement sur la photo avant de la re- photographier a in de réaliser une image unique qui concilie les deux médiums.

Joshua Jensen-Nagle a été présenté dans Photolife, National Post, Galleries West et Canadian House and Home, Art canadien et art en Amérique. Ses œuvres figurent également dans des collections de sociétés, notamment Microsoft, les hôtels Hilton, Target Canada Corporation, Maple Leaf, le Cirque du Soleil et Transcontinental, entre autres.
